The last time I posted here was over a year ago I don’t think that I had quite committed to running for office but I was close to it. However, for the entirety of my adult life my only career interest was playing, writing, producing and performing music. Flash forward a year and I have run for U. S. Congress and State Senate and actually done pretty well for a first-time candidate and learned a LOT.
Truth be told I must have quit 30 times between December 2017 and April 2018. I was- and continue to be- frustrated about the sad state of the Missouri Democratic Party. I also realize that if you want to change- as difficult as it may be- you might have to stand in the front of a very short line to make it happen. So here I am- a year later- preparing for my next race, coordinating with my various Democratic Commitees and supporters armed with a lot more experience, knowledge and resources to hopefully deliver a victory in 2020.
In 2018 my grind certainly changed and music took a back seat while I worked to figure out politics. In 2019 my goal is to achieve a balance between my musical career and my political and activist aspirations. I find it interesting that in 2016 I wrote a bunch of new material that contained a variety of social/political themes at a time where being involved in politics had never, ever occurred to me. Now those tunes will be a great foundation of material to build my next musical chapter upon.
So “GrindingForLife.com” will again be a place for me to chronicle my efforts and experiences as a musician- and now also as an aspiring politician. Stay tuned for articles about policy, booking shows, eating both “picnic chicken” and “road chicken”. Politics is the new band…
